Scope

Access

 The main international airports are Narita Airport (Tokyo), Haneda Airport (Tokyo), Kansai International Airport (Osaka), Central Japan International Airport (Nagoya) and Fukuoka Airport. Itami Airport (Osaka) is a domestic airport.
 There are domestic flights to the Matsue area are available from Haneda Airport (Tokyo), Itami Airport (Osaka), and Fukuoka Airport.

 The easiest way to fly to Matsue is to use Haneda Airport as a hub. You can transfer between Narita Airport and Haneda Airport, and between Kansai Airport and Itami Airport by bus and by rail.

Flights to/from Matsue’s nearest airports (domestic flights within Japan) and connecting buses

  • From/to Izumo (IZO) there are
    • quite frequent flights from/to Tokyo HND (Haneda Airport), and not Narita International
    • some flights from/to Osaka ITM (Itami Airport), and not Kansai International
    • very few flights from/to Fukuoka FUK (Fukuoka Airport)
  • Buses between Matsue railway station and Izumo Airport take about 30 minutes
  • Flights from/to Yonago YGJ (Yonago Airport) there are
    • frequent flights from/to Tokyo HND (Haneda Airport), and not Narita Inernational
    • a few flights from/to Kobe UKB (Kobe Airport)
    • direct flights from/to Seoul ICN (Incheon Airport)
    • one Asiana flight between Yonago(YGJ) and Incheon (ICN) on Friday, Sunday and Tuesday.
  • Buses between Matsue railway station and Yonago Airport take about 45 minutes.

There are also comfortable express busses to Matsue from Tokyo (night bus), Nagoya, Kyoto, Osaka, Kobe, Okayama, Hiroshima and Fukuoka/Kitakyushu.

Trains from/to Matsue
There are mainly train route to go from Kyoto to Matsue:

  • Kyoto –(Shinkansen)– Okayama ––(limited express: Yakumo)– Matsue(about 4 hours)
  • Okayama Shinkansen (high-speed train) station is served by high-speed trains from all the major international airports, including Tokyo, Nagoya, Kyoto and Osaka.
  • Okayama to Matsue by train is only 2½ hours by rail (regular express train “Yakumo”, operate hourly). ** “Shinkansen” operate every 15 minutes.
